The castle is located in Sandomierz at ul. Zamkowa 12, on an escarpment above the Vistula, near Sandomierz's Old Town (Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship).
The castle has medieval origins and was associated with royal residences (including the times of Casimir the Great). In the following centuries it was rebuilt, including in the Renaissance style. Today it houses the Castle (Regional) Museum, presenting the history and culture of the Sandomierz region.
