The castle is located in the centre of Pszczyna (Silesian Voivodeship), at ul. Brama Wybrańców 1, surrounded by an extensive English-style park.
The castle derives from a medieval building rebuilt many times; its present form was given mainly in the 19th century, when it was the residence of the von Pless (Hochberg) family. It is one of the best-preserved aristocratic residences in Poland, with original interior furnishings.
