The castle rises in Gniew on the Vistula (Pomeranian Voivodeship), at ul. Zamkowa 3, between Grudziądz and Gdańsk. It is one of the best-preserved Gothic Teutonic castles in Poland.
The castle was built as a stronghold of the Teutonic Order, the seat of a commander, on the left bank of the Vistula. It served defensive and administrative functions. After the Teutonic period it came under Polish rule. Today it is a museum branch and a venue for historical re-enactments.
