The castle is located in Lidzbark Warmiński (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship) at Plac Zamkowy 1. It is regarded as one of the most valuable Gothic monuments in the region.
The castle was erected in the 14th century as the residence of the bishops of Warmia. It was the seat of episcopal power in Warmia and one of the region's most important administrative centres. Figures such as Nicolaus Copernicus and Ignacy Krasicki were associated with the castle. Today it is a branch of the Museum of Warmia and Masuria.
