Location and surroundings

The castle ruins are located in Toruń's Old Town, on the Vistula, at ul. Przedzamcze 3 (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship).

History

This was the oldest Teutonic castle in the Chełmno Land, built in the Middle Ages as the seat of a commander. In 1454, during the uprising against the Teutonic Order, the burghers of Toruń captured and demolished the stronghold. The preserved relics, including the gdanisko, have been made available for visiting.

The castle courtyard, the cellars, the gdanisko (sanitary tower), and exhibitions (including an archaeological one, an armoury and a model of the castle).
