The castle is located in Łęczyca (Łódź Voivodeship), at ul. Zamkowa 1, about 40 km from Łódź.
The Gothic castle was built in the 14th century as a royal stronghold, associated with the foundations of Casimir the Great. It served defensive and administrative functions. Numerous legends are connected with the region, including that of the devil Boruta. Today the castle houses the Museum in Łęczyca.
Archaeological, historical, artistic and ethnographic exhibitions, and a tower with a viewpoint; the museum is famous for its collection devoted to devils (including Boruta).
