The castle ruins rise on an escarpment above the Vistula in Janowiec (Lublin Voivodeship), opposite Kazimierz Dolny.
The castle was built in the 16th century as a residence of the Firlej family; in the following centuries it was expanded in the Renaissance and Mannerist styles and was one of the grand magnate residences on the Vistula. After its heyday, the castle fell into ruin. Today it is home to a museum, on whose grounds there are also historic wooden buildings.
The courtyard with cloisters, exhibitions in the reconstructed interiors, the manor house from Moniaki and the granary from Podlodów with an ethnographic exhibition.
For tourists visiting the area of Kazimierz Dolny and lovers of history.
Summer season (1 Apr-30 Sep) daily 10:00-17:00; winter season (1 Oct-31 Mar) shorter hours - please confirm on the museum's website.
The site is in Janowiec on the Vistula, opposite Kazimierz Dolny (seasonal ferry connection); accessible by car.
