Teutonic Castle in Nidzica

The Gothic Teutonic castle in Nidzica (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship) was built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries as the seat of a Teutonic procurator. The main construction works were completed around 1409.

History

The castle survived the Polish-Teutonic wars and the following centuries, but in 1945 it was severely damaged and burned down, losing its ceilings and part of its walls. Reconstruction was carried out between 1961 and 1965.

What you can see

Today the castle serves cultural and tourist functions. It houses the Museum of the Nidzica Land with a historical and ethnographic exhibition, the Nidzica Cultural Centre, as well as a hotel and a restaurant.
