Chojnik Castle

Chojnik Castle is located in the Sobieszów district of Jelenia Góra (Lower Silesia Province), on a hilltop within the Karkonosze National Park.

History

The castle was built in the 14th century by Duke Bolko II of Świdnica and Jawor. The stronghold was never conquered by an enemy, but it burned down after being struck by lightning in 1675. Today it is a permanent ruin open to tourists almost all year round.

Attractions

From the top of the viewing tower there is a sweeping panorama of the Jelenia Góra Valley and the Karkonosze Mountains.

Getting there

Access via hiking trails from Sobieszów (black trail approx. 1.6 km / 45 min, red trail approx. 1.9 km / 50 min). Car parks on Chałubińskiego Street, approx. 100 m from the KPN ticket office.
