A limestone ridge in the heart of the Jura

Góra Zborów rises to 462 m above sea level in the municipality of Kroczyce, on the Częstochowa Upland. Together with the neighbouring Góra Kołczek it forms a nature reserve protecting the Jurassic limestone outcrops, grasslands and rock labyrinths of the Kroczyce Rocks. The name of the hill is linked to a legend about witches who were said to gather here before flying off to Łysa Góra.

The strikingly shaped rocks have stirred the imagination for a long time, as it is easy to see the outlines of animals and people in the limestone blocks. For climbers the massif is one of the classic training grounds of the Jura.

Panorama and the Jaskinia Głęboka cave

The summit is one of the finest viewpoints in the Kraków-Częstochowa Jura. It looks out over rolling plateaus, scattered clusters of rock and, in good visibility, the castles of the Trail of the Eagles Nests: Ogrodzieniec, Morsko, Mirów and Bobolice.

Inside the massif lies the Jaskinia Głęboka cave with a route about 190 metres long, open to visitors in season and only with a guide. Warm clothing is needed, because the temperature inside stays low regardless of the weather outside.

Trails and sightseeing

Several marked routes run through the area: the red Trail of the Eagles Nests, the blue Trail of Jurassic Strongholds, the yellow Zamonit Trail and the green trail leading towards the Rzędkowice Rocks. The climb to the top is short but steep and rocky in places, so footwear with a good sole is useful.

Good to know

The reserve requires visitors to keep to the marked paths, because the grassland vegetation is very sensitive to trampling. The trip is easy to combine with the neighbouring Rzędkowice Rocks or a visit to one of the Jurassic castles.

  • Marked trails and paths within the reserve
  • Jaskinia Głęboka cave open with a guide in season
  • Parking spaces at the foot of the hill, in Podlesice
  • Food outlets and accommodation in the nearby villages
  • Information boards about the nature of the reserve
  • No facilities on the summit itself
Seasonality: All year; the Jaskinia Głęboka cave open in season
