Wieś Rycerka Górna
Praszywka Wielka rises to 1043 m above sea level in the Żywiec Beskids, within the Wielka Racza group, above the village of Rycerka Górna in the Żywiec district. Its broad, almost entirely treeless top is unusual in this part of the Beskids, where the ridges are normally covered by dense forest. The name is traced to a word meaning to plough, a reference to the former farming and shepherding use of the slopes.
The open summit meadow offers an all-round view. To the east and south runs the ridge of the Wielka Racza group with Rachowiec, Ożna, Jaworzyna and Kikula; to the north stands the massif of Barania Góra, with Hala Lipowska and Sucha Góra beyond. As nothing blocks the horizon, the summit is a fine place to watch the sunset — but there is no shelter from the wind.
Marked trails lead up from the valley of the Soła: the easier ascent starts in Rycerka Dolna, the longer variant follows the black trail from Sól over Łysica (704 m above sea level). The climb takes several hours and calls for solid footwear, as the paths turn muddy after rain. The trip is easy to combine with a visit to the PTTK mountain hut on Przegibek.
