Wieś Czorsztyn
Hala Majerz is a broad pasture on the gentle Majerz hill (689 m above sea level) in the Pieniny National Park, just above Czorsztyn in the Nowy Targ district. The open expanse of some 53 hectares contrasts with the wooded slopes of the Pieniny and forms a natural viewing terrace above the Czorsztyn reservoir.
The national park maintains traditional grazing of sheep and cattle here — a conservation measure that keeps the meadows from being overgrown and preserves the richness of mountain plants. Farming on this land goes far back: old records mention a manor farm on the site as early as the sixteenth century. In summer, herds move across the pasture and the sound of their bells carries along the whole ridge.
The Main Pieniny Trail runs through the middle of the pasture, and the blue trail from Czorsztyn to the Osice Pass reaches it in about a quarter of an hour. For many walkers this is a convenient start of the trip to Trzy Korony. A road from Krośnica to Sromowce Wyżne also runs along the northern and eastern edge. From the ridge you can see the Tatras, the Spiš Pieniny, Lubań and the surface of Lake Czorsztyn.
