Zakopane
Zawrat is a saddle at 2159 m above sea level in the eastern ridge of Świnica, in the High Tatras. It is one of the two end points of Orla Perć — the most difficult marked trail in the Polish Tatras — and one of the most recognisable spots in this part of the mountains.
From the saddle you can see Mały Kozi Wierch and, to the south, the Valley of Five Polish Lakes with Zadni Staw Polski; on the other side a gully drops towards Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy. The panorama takes in rock ridges and glacial cirques, at their best in the early morning.
Two trails lead to the pass: the blue one from Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy, 2.6 km long and taking almost two hours, and the red one from Świnica, about 45 minutes. The approaches are exposed and secured with chains; they call for experience, good weather and a sure step. In winter the route becomes a high-mountain climb.
