A hill above Bieruń

Góra Chełmeczki is a modest hill of 264 m above sea level on the edge of Bieruń in the Bieruń-Lędziny district. Despite its small height it stands out clearly above the surrounding fields and serves as a local landmark, readily visited by residents of the Upper Silesian conurbation.

The chapel on the summit

The most interesting building is the historic chapel of Our Lady of Częstochowa, laid out on a rectangular plan and closed with a semicircular apse. Inside, wall paintings and Baroque sculptures of saints have survived. The chapel stands at a crossing of field tracks, in the shade of an old tree; once a year, usually in spring, mass is celebrated here. A figure of Saint Anthony with the Child stands nearby.

Views and access

The summit offers a wide view over the surrounding plain and the buildings of Bieruń. A gazebo with information boards and maps of nearby routes has been set up on the hill. A red waymarked trail leads to the top; the walk from the centre of Bieruń takes about forty-five minutes. A popular cycling route passes right beside it.
