Koszalin
Góra Chełmska rises about 4 km from the centre of Koszalin and has served for centuries as a landmark and a place of worship. The brick observation tower on its summit dates from the end of the 19th century. The grounds are entered through a gate bearing the Latin inscription Nos cum Prole Pia benedicat Virgo Maria.
The tower is about 31 m high and some 140 metal steps lead to the viewing deck. From the platform you can see Lake Jamno and Lake Bukowo, the surface of the Baltic Sea and the wooded hills stretching towards Polanów; below spreads the panorama of Koszalin. Inside, boards present the history of the building and archive photographs.
The tower opens seasonally and on selected days, and stays closed in strong wind or rain for safety reasons. Only a limited number of people are admitted to the deck at a time. The hill is part of a sanctuary and a forest complex with walking paths.
