Katowice Airport from an observer's point of view

The spotting platforms at Katowice International Airport in Pyrzowice lie about 30 km north of Katowice, on the border of the Ożarowice and Mierzęcice municipalities. They were built for aviation enthusiasts and tourists who want to watch the airport at work from a safe distance, without entering the airport grounds.

Two platforms, two views

The runway in Pyrzowice is one of the longest in the country – 3,200 m long and 45 m wide. The western platform, on the Ożarowice side, offers a full view of take-offs, landings and taxiing aircraft. The second one, in Mierzęcice, is harder to reach but better positioned for photographers looking for good light.

Who it suits

It is a rewarding stop for families with children: next to the platform in Mierzęcice there is a playground with a view of the aircraft, and a nearby chapel is often used as a foreground for photos with a landing plane behind it. Observation is possible at any time of day.
