Wieś Wetlina
Połonina Wetlińska is a broad ridge in the Western Bieszczady reaching 1255 m above sea level, with several summits spread over a few kilometres. The treeless, grassy domes give the landscape a character found nowhere else in the Polish mountains. To the west the massif continues as Smerek.
Just below the main summit stands Chatka Puchatka, the oldest mountain hut in the Bieszczady. Several stories are attached to the ridge, among them one about dividing the pastures between neighbouring villages: the farmers set out at dawn and marked the boundaries where they met. The squire of Hulskie overslept, so his village had to graze its cattle on Otryt.
The most frequently chosen route is the red trail from Brzegi Górne: about 4.7 km and close to three hours of walking. An alternative is the nature trail starting in Wetlina and running over the Orłowicz Pass. The ridge is exposed and strongly hit by wind and mist, so check the forecast before setting out.
