A summit in the Barania Góra Range

Kotarz (974 m a.s.l.) rises in the Silesian Beskids above Szczyrk Solisko, between the Karkoszczonka and Salmopolska passes. Its slopes fall towards the Żylica valley, and from the summit clearing you can see the Skrzyczne massif.

Nature

The mountain belongs to the Silesian Beskids Landscape Park and forms part of the southern ecological corridor. Protected species grow here, among them common polypody, orchids and interrupted clubmoss, so it is worth keeping to the marked paths.

Access and the Altar of Europe

Three trails lead to the top: two red ones — from the Salmopolska Pass (about 3 km, close to an hour) and from Siodło pod Klimczokiem (about 2 hours 10 minutes) — and a blue one from Brenna (about 2 hours). In 2008 a stone Altar of Europe was raised here, built from stones brought from many countries.

  • Summit clearing with the Altar of Europe
