Międzyzdroje
Kawcza Góra is a wooded hill in the eastern part of Międzyzdroje, dropping in a steep edge straight towards the Baltic Sea. A viewpoint has been arranged at almost 57 m above sea level, taking in the seaside part of the town with its famous pier, the wide beach and the open sea all the way to the horizon. The hill lies on the edge of the Wolin National Park.
Two stone obelisks stand at the top: the older commemorates a congress of German foresters held in 1892, the younger a congress of the Polish Forestry Union a hundred years later. The ascent itself is an attraction, as the hill is climbed by a wooden staircase considered the longest on the Polish coast. It measures 128.5 metres in length and overcomes 51 metres of height difference.
You can reach Kawcza Góra straight from the beach by the stairs or more gently along a forest path; a black hiking trail starting in Międzyzdroje also crosses the hill. Drivers leave their cars in the parking area by the main road at the foot. The walk combines well with the promenade and the pier.
