Karpacz
Skalny Stół is the highest elevation of the Kowary Ridge in the Karkonosze Mountains, on the Polish-Czech border, within Karkonosze National Park. The name refers to the flat slabs of schist covering the summit plateau — walking across them feels like crossing a stone tabletop. Karpacz is the natural base.
The panorama takes in the Jelenia Góra Valley, the Kaczawskie Mountains, the eastern Karkonosze with Śnieżka and the villages scattered across the valleys. The summit is only partly open, so it is worth picking a day with clear air; under low cloud the climb loses its main attraction.
The shortest route starts in Wilcza Poręba in Karpacz: the green trail, then the black one through Sowia Dolina and the blue one to the top — about 4.5 km and a little over two hours. A longer variant follows the green and then the yellow trail. Inside the park you may walk on marked trails only.
