Szczawnica
Szafranówka (742 m above sea level) lies on the main ridge of the Małe Pieniny mountains, right next to Palenica above Szczawnica, and the Polish–Slovak border runs across its top. The summit is crowned by a rocky crest, while grassy meadows cover its slopes, leaving the panorama open in almost every direction.
The view takes in the Dunajec valley, the town of Szczawnica, Trzy Korony and Sokolica, and further away the Gorce and Beskid Śląski ranges; in clear air the Tatra Mountains appear on the horizon. Rare plants grow on the grassland, among them black cotoneaster and narrow-leaved elecampane, so it is best to stay on the paths.
The easiest way is to take the chairlift to Palenica and walk about fifteen minutes along the ridge. The walking option starts in Szczawnica and follows the yellow trail: 2.1 km and roughly an hour on foot. On the meadow below Palenica there are ski lifts, a gravity slide and food outlets.
