Traces of an early medieval stronghold

The Lubin hillfort is what remains of a stronghold that functioned between the 10th and 12th centuries on a rise above the back delta of the Świna. Archaeological work has uncovered, in the central part of the hill, the foundations of the oldest church in Pomerania, the remains of a masonry residential tower and a cemetery beside the church.

Visiting

The site is laid out for visitors: information boards along the paths describe the history of the stronghold and the results of the excavations, and guests can strike their own souvenir copy of an Arab dirham — the kind of coin that reached this area along old trade routes.

Panorama and access

The viewing terraces look out over the Szczecin Lagoon and the wetlands of the Świna back delta; a telescope is available for watching distant landmarks and birds. A blue trail leads here from Międzyzdroje, about 6 km away, and the site can also be reached by car.
