Wieś Ujsoły
Zapolanka (853 m above sea level) lies in the Lipowski Wierch and Romanka group, above the village of Ujsoły in the Żywiec district. The hill looks modest on the map but stands out in the field: the ridge and the upper slopes are treeless, once used as pasture, so the horizon stays open in almost every direction.
The panorama covers the main ranges of the Żywiec and Silesian Beskids — the Romanka massif, the border ridges on the Slovak side and the valleys running down towards Rajcza and Ujsoły. Because the summit dome is open, the view changes with every step of the ascent, and in autumn and early spring, when the air is clear, visibility reaches furthest.
A yellow waymarked trail leads to the top from Rajcza and is about 6.2 km long; the walk takes a little over 2.5 hours one way. On the way you pass a monument to the soldiers of a forest partisan unit and a private shepherd's hut called „Chata Zapolanka”. The route needs no special equipment, but sturdy soles and a water supply help — there is no shade on the ridge.
