Zakopane
Gęsia Szyja (1489 m a.s.l.) is a distinctive summit in the lower forest belt of the High Tatras, on the Polish side and within the Tatra National Park. Administratively it belongs to Zakopane, although the approaches start from the Dolina Filipka valley and Wierch Poroniec.
The summit dome is formed by dolomite crags over a dozen metres high, also known as the Waksmundzkie Skałki. From the top a wide view opens over the High, Western and Belianske Tatras, and at the foot of the mountain lies Rusinowa Polana, one of the most photographed spots in the range.
Originally the name Gęsia Szyja referred only to the narrow eastern link with Rusinowa Polana, whose shape reminded the highlanders of a goose neck; in time it was applied to the whole massif. A blue and a green trail lead to the top, each slightly over 4 km, running through national park land.
