Volcanic peak above Lake Czorsztyńskie

Wdżar rises to 766 m above sea level in the range linking Lubań with the Pieniny Mountains, above the village of Kluszkowce in the Nowy Targ district. It stands out geologically: it is built of Pieniny andesite, an igneous rock rare in the Polish Carpathians. Traces of its extraction survive in three disused quarries on the slopes, now open to visitors.

What to see

The summit clearings open onto a panorama of Lake Czorsztyńskie, the Pieniny, the Tatras, Podhale, Orava and the Sądecki and Żywiecki Beskids. Educational trails run through the former workings and explain the origin of the andesite. The Snozka quarry is used by rock climbers.

Active on the slopes

Wdżar is also a sports base: a rope park, a Bike Park for gravity and enduro riders and a downhill track. A chairlift runs to the top, and the alternative is to walk up the nature trail. Food outlets operate in season.

  • Chairlift to the summit
  • Car park at the lower lift station
