Szklarska Poręba
Łabski Szczyt rises to 1,471 m above sea level on the main ridge of the Karkonosze (Giant Mountains), above Szklarska Poręba. It is the third highest peak in the Polish part of the range and is recognisable by the vast field of granite blocks covering its whole summit dome.
The Polish-Czech border runs right beside the top, and the peak lies within the Karkonosze National Park, so walkers must keep to marked trails. On the south-western slope stretches Łabska Polana, a peat-bog clearing where the Elbe rises. The vegetation belongs to the dwarf-pine belt and alpine grassland.
From Szklarska Poręba a blue trail about 7.6 km long leads to the summit and takes close to four hours. A similar time should be allowed for the yellow route. Weather on the ridge changes abruptly, so windproof clothing and a supply of water are essential.
