The highest point of the Mały Grzbiet

Góra Szybowcowa (561 m a.s.l.) rises above Jeżów Sudecki on the edge of the Jelenia Góra Valley. It is the highest point of the Mały Grzbiet ridge in the Kaczawskie Mountains, and its broad, treeless dome makes the summit a natural viewing terrace.

The panorama

From the hill you can see the whole Jelenia Góra Valley and, in good visibility, the Karkonosze ridge with Śnieżka, the Izera Mountains, the Kaczawskie Foothills and the Wałbrzych ranges. It is one of the best spots for panoramic photographs in this part of the Sudetes, especially in the morning and before sunset.

The gliding airfield

Thanks to steady updrafts, one of Poland's oldest gliding airfields has operated here since 1924, with several grass runways. Gliding, aircraft and parachute competitions are held a few times a year. The walk up from Jeżów Sudecki takes under half an hour, and a blue cycling route crosses the summit.

  • Car park by the gliding airfield
  • Grassy viewing meadows on the summit
  • Blue cycling route across the top
Cost: Free admission Visit duration: approx. 1 hour Seasonality: Year-round; gliding flights mainly from spring to autumn
