A view over the Suwałki region

The wooden platform in the village of Smolniki stands within the Suwalski Landscape Park, at about 225 m above sea level. From the deck you can see the north-eastern part of the park: post-glacial hills, the Kleszczówek lakes and the highest summits of the region — Jesionowa, Cisowa and Krzemieniucha.

Where the name comes from

The viewpoint owes its name to the landscape used as a location for the film „Pan Tadeusz” directed by Andrzej Wajda. Rolling fields, clumps of trees and a wide horizon evoke the old eastern borderlands, which is why the spot is a regular stop on driving tours of the Suwałki region.

Access and surroundings

A yellow trail about 0.7 km long leads from Smolniki, running right beside the road; the walk takes less than a quarter of an hour. A small shop next to the platform sells souvenirs, postcards and guides to the park. The view is at its best early in the morning and before sunset, when the light brings out the shape of the terrain.
