Wieś Poręba Wielka
Turbacz (1,310 m above sea level) towers above Poręba Wielka in the Limanowa district and is the culmination of the whole Gorce range. The summit itself is entirely wooded, so views are sought slightly lower, on the wide Wolnica clearing.
Five minutes from the top stands the PTTK mountain hut, whose viewing terrace opens a panorama of the Pieniny and the Tatras. In front of the building the largest trail junction in the Gorce comes together. Next to the hut there is a small PTTK Museum of Mountain Culture and Tourism, opened in 1980. During the Second World War the surrounding forests sheltered partisan units.
Until the end of the 19th century the peak was called Niedźwiedź, a name that came from a mistaken location marking of the nearby village of Niedźwiedź. There are many ways up, the fastest being the blue trail from Koninki near Poręba Wielka, 8.5 km long and taking about three hours and forty minutes.
