The highest hill of the Bytów Lakeland

Góra Siemierzycka, 256 m above sea level, lies in Kashubia, in the Bytów district, near the village of Rekowo. It is the highest hill of the Bytów Lakeland, and its summit is crowned by a steel-and-timber observation tower more than 21 metres tall.

History of the tower

The first structure stood here before the First World War but did not last long. Another one, sixteen metres high, was erected in 2005; lacking maintenance, it soon fell into disrepair. In 2020, commissioned by the municipal authorities of Bytów, the old tower was dismantled and replaced with the present one, which is open to visitors.

The view and the approach

Eighty-six steps lead to the platform at a height of 17.2 m. From there a panorama opens over Kashubian villages, forests and lakes. The hill can be climbed from Płotowo or along the nature trail starting in Rekowo – about 2.5 km of walking. Building the tower took 25 tonnes of steel and 10 cubic metres of timber.
