Mszana Dolna
Szczebel rises to 977 m above sea level in the Island Beskids, towering over Mszana Dolna and Kasinka Mała. It stands in the fork of three rivers – the Raba, the Lubieńka and the Tenczynka – which gives it the isolated profile typical of this range. The summit and slopes are mostly forested.
Beside the black trail lies a cave known as Zimna Dziura w Szczeblu (the Cold Hole), described as early as the 19th century; ice can survive inside it almost until summer. Approaching from the north along the Papal Trail, you pass a clearing with windthrow and views of Lubomir, Lubogoszcz and the Raba valley. On the summit itself stands a monument to John Paul II, who visited twice, and a mast with the Polish flag.
In 2010 benches and a designated campfire spot were added at the top. The summit is reached by the black trail from Lubień via Mały Szczebel (about 5 km, 2.5 hours) and the green trail from Raba Niżna (6.7 km, about 3 hours).
