Zakopane
Starorobociański Wierch (2176 m above sea level) is the highest summit in the Polish part of the Western Tatras. From the south and the north it resembles a regular pyramid with stony slopes. It is built of metamorphic rocks and migmatitic granitoids, which sets it apart from the limestone ridges of the lower parts of the range.
The peak towers over the neighbouring summits and offers one of the widest panoramas in the Western Tatras. Bystra with Błyszcz, Kamienista, Ciemniak and the Slovak Rohacze are clearly visible, and in good air clarity also the main ridge of the High Tatras.
Every approach is long and demanding. A popular route starts at the mountain hut on Hala Ornak: first the yellow trail, then the green one over Suchy Wierch and Ornak, and finally the red ridge trail to the summit. The section is about 7 km one way, so plan a full day for the trip.
