Wieś Jabłonki
Wzgórze Walter rises to 836 m above sea level in the Western Bieszczady, in the Łopiennik and Durna range, above the village of Jabłonki. Originally it was called Woronikówka; in 1967 it was renamed to commemorate general Karol Świerczewski, code-named Walter, who was killed in an ambush near Jabłonki in 1947.
The slopes of the hill are steep and mostly covered with lush forest. On the northern slope lies the Woronikówka nature reserve, protecting a natural stand of common yew, a species rare in the Polish mountains. At the foot of the hill, both to the north and to the south, many small streams flow.
The climb is short and needs no mountain experience, so the route also suits families with children. A green trail starting in the village of Jabłonki leads to the top. A plaque commemorating the general stands on the summit; there is no wide view, as the top is forested.
