Wieś Kościelisko
Wołowiec (2060 m above sea level) rises in the Western Tatras on the Polish-Slovak border, in the Kościelisko municipality. It is one of the highest peaks of the Polish Tatras and the point where three ridges meet: the main ridge with Jarząbczy Wierch, the ridge towards the Rohače and the northern ridge. The mountain drops towards the Chochołowska, Jamnicka and Rohacka valleys.
The summit dome is broad and flat, so the panorama covers the whole High Tatras and, in clear weather, Babia Góra as well. The slopes are covered with grass growing among rock debris, with dwarf pine lower down. Chamois are seen here regularly and marmots appear on the northern side; the slopes hold rare plants such as Lachenal sedge and Swiss willow.
From the Chochołowska Valley a green trail and the final section of the blue one lead up in about 2 hours 40 minutes. From Rakoń the blue trail takes under 40 minutes. The climb requires fitness and mountain boots, and the whole area lies within Tatra National Park.
