Łynostrada

Łynostrada is a regional tourist cycle trail in Warmia and Masuria, running largely along the valley of the Łyna River. It connects Masuria (the Nidzica area) with Warmia, leading through Olsztyn and Dobre Miasto to Lidzbark Warmiński, and in its full version further towards the border with the Kaliningrad region.

Characteristics

  • A route over 100 km long (sources give about 115 km for the Nidzica–Lidzbark Warmiński section; the full regional trail is sometimes described as longer).
  • The Olsztyn section (the so-called Olsztyn Łynostrada) is about 11 km long and crosses the city from south to north.
  • Mixed surface: mainly gravel and natural, in the centre of Olsztyn along roads and pedestrian-cycle paths.

Attractions along the route

  • The Łyna Springs Reserve.
  • The Warmia Forest and the Municipal Forest in Olsztyn.
  • The bishops' castles in Lidzbark Warmiński and Nidzica.

Scope

  • Tourist cycle trail, signposted (green/blue colours on different sections).
  • Origin: the Olsztyn part was created through the Olsztyn Participatory Budget project (2015).

Seasonality and hours

Available year-round, with the best conditions from spring to autumn. No opening hours (the trail is open).

Getting there

Central point: Olsztyn (Olsztyn Główny railway/bus station). Access by car and rail to Olsztyn, Nidzica and Lidzbark Warmiński.
