Wieś Mielnik
Góra Uszeście is a twin-peaked moraine hill on the northern edge of the village of Mielnik in the Podlaskie province, Siemiatycze district. It forms an extension of the terminal moraines of the Middle Polish glaciation. The hill is built mainly of sands and gravels, beneath which chalk rock lies close to the surface — a feature that shapes the whole area.
A nature reserve of about 12 hectares was established here in 1985 to protect xerothermic vegetation. The sunlit slopes have developed grasslands with warmth-loving species, among them Boehmer's cat's-tail, blue hair grass, the eastern pasqueflower and tor grass. Some of them are rare on a national scale, so visitors must keep to the designated paths.
Wooden steps lead to the summit, with the entrance starting from St. Dubois Street. From the top you can see the nearby chalk quarry, the Bug valley and the buildings of Mielnik. The climb is short, so a visit usually takes about half an hour.
