Zamkowa 8, Polanica-Zdrój
Leśna Skała is a neo-Gothic hunting and knightly castle hidden among forests on a rocky hill above Szczytna, close to the spa town of Polanica-Zdrój. It is not a medieval stronghold: it was built in the 1830s on the initiative of Leopold von Hochberg, on the site of an earlier timber complex.
The four-sided, three-storey main block is framed by four corner towers and surrounded by a dry moat with walls. A chapel still used for services adjoins the castle, and next to it there is a small mission museum with objects brought from missions on several continents. Stone Stations of the Cross line the slope, and the viewing platform opens up a panorama of the Stołowe Mountains.
The site lies in the heart of the Kłodzko Valley, between the Stołowe and Bystrzyckie Mountains. Szczeliniec Wielki, Błędne Skały and the spa parks of Polanica-Zdrój and Duszniki-Zdrój are all a short drive away. Marked hiking and cycling trails run through the area, so the castle fits easily into a full day out.
