ul. Tadeusza Kościuszki, Siewierz
The permanent ruin of the castle in Siewierz lies on Tadeusza Kościuszki Street, in the Będzin district of Silesia. The stronghold was raised in the 14th century on the site of an earlier wooden seat, on an artificial island among the marshes and wetlands of the Czarna Przemsza valley — a location that long determined its defensive strength and made construction difficult.
For centuries the castle remained in the hands of the bishops of Kraków, who ruled the Duchy of Siewierz. In the 16th century it was converted into a residence with Renaissance features, but from the 19th century it gradually fell into ruin. Conservation work at the end of the 20th century preserved the medieval layout: the main walls, the asymmetrical courtyard, the barbican and the gate tower.
The wooden drawbridge draws attention — a solution rarely found in Polish castles. The tower known as the Noble Tower offers a view over the town and its surroundings, while the cellars house an archaeological exhibition devoted to the castle's history.
