The relics of the Teutonic castle and the rebuilt Klimek tower stand on Castle Hill in Grudziądz, some 60 metres above the surface of the Vistula. From the edge of the hill a wide view opens over the river, the valley and the famous riverside granaries. The site is a short walk from the old town and freely accessible.
The castle was built in the 13th century as one of the larger strongholds of the Teutonic Order and the seat of a commander. It had an irregular layout typical of that period: an outer bailey and, higher up, the castle proper on an irregular quadrangular plan, with a residential wing to the west and service rooms to the east. From 1466 royal starosts resided here.
Only fragments of walls and cellars survive from the old building, made legible by information boards. The Klimek tower, blown up at the end of the Second World War, was reconstructed in 2014 and serves as a viewpoint. Visiting the grounds is free and takes between a dozen and twenty minutes.
