Wieś Krupe
The castle ruins in Krupe lie in the village of Krupe in the Krasnystaw district, a few kilometres from Krasnystaw. What survives are the remains of a fortified noble residence whose beginnings reach back to the 15th century and to Jerzy Krupski. The next owner, Samuel Zborowski, extended the complex with curtain walls and four bastions, giving it a Renaissance character.
The castle suffered badly during the Swedish Deluge. Around 1670 the descendants of Mikołaj Rej raised it from ruin, but in the 18th century a fire consumed the building, after which it was never rebuilt. Fragments of the perimeter walls, the corner bastions and traces of decoration still stand, overgrown with vegetation that gives the place a romantic, picturesque mood.
This is a short, informal stop on a route across the Lublin region. The ruins lie in a valley by the water, next to a small river, and the open ground around invites a picnic or a walk with a dog. A visit takes fifteen to twenty minutes; there is no permanent exhibition and no guide service.
