Wieś Biały Kościół
The remains of a medieval stronghold crown Zamkowa Skała rock in the Kluczwoda Valley, in the heart of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. The limestone outcrop rises some 20 metres above the valley floor, on the southern side of the road from Wielka Wieś to Biały Kościół, a dozen or so kilometres north of Cracow.
The stronghold was probably built in the early 14th century and is linked with the Syrokomla family. It served them only briefly — after a few decades the family moved to nearby Korzkiew and the abandoned walls began to decay. The oldest surviving written records date from the 18th century and already describe the site as a ruin.
The climb up the rock is short but steep; fragments of walls survive at the top and the wooded valley opens up below. The site is freely accessible, with no fencing or visitor facilities. The Kluczwoda Valley is a popular area for walking and rock climbing, adjoining the surroundings of Ojców National Park.
