Wieś Ossolin
The castle ruins in Ossolin hide on a spur of a loess plateau in the Sandomierz district, some fifteen kilometres from Sandomierz. In the 17th century a handsome residence of the Ossoliński family was raised here, on the site of an older medieval seat, to a design by Wawrzyniec Senes. It was meant to testify to the family's power, but its heyday was short.
After the destruction of the mid-17th century and successive changes of owner, the buildings were pulled down. The most legible element is the arcade of the former bridge that once led towards the outbuildings — a striking, solitary fragment amid greenery. Outlines of foundations and the artificially shaped slopes of the old complex are also visible in the terrain.
The approach follows a narrow, steep and overgrown path, so sturdy footwear helps; the site is not adapted for pushchairs. The ruins lie on the Cycling Route of Defensive Architecture and combine well with a visit to Sandomierz or Klimontów.
