Wieś Korzkiew
Korzkiew Castle rises on a limestone hill in the valley of the Korzkiewka stream, a dozen or so kilometres north of Kraków. It is counted among the Eagles' Nests and forms the centre of the Korzkiew Cultural Park. A historic park surrounds it, and a small church stands on the neighbouring rise.
The story begins in the 14th century, when Jan of Syrokomla bought the hill and put up a stone residential and defensive tower with cellars. The castle passed through a succession of families: in 1720 it was rebuilt by the Jordan family, later it belonged to the Wessel and Wodzicki families, and at the end of the 19th century it fell into ruin. Reconstruction was begun in 1997 by the new owner, the architect Jerzy Donimirski.
The interiors are occupied by a hotel with conference facilities and are not open to tourists — the castle can only be viewed from outside. It is worth combining the visit with a walk along the Korzkiewka valley and a trip to the nearby Ojców National Park.
