The largest castle in Wielkopolska

The Baroque residence in Rydzyna near Leszno is regarded as the largest castle complex in Wielkopolska. It was built in the 17th century on the site of a 15th-century Gothic castle of the Rydzyński family, erected on an artificial island. The building has four wings and four storeys, an inner courtyard and towers at the corners.

Interiors and history

The painted decoration was created by Michelangelo Palloni. In 1945 the castle was set on fire, but despite the enormous damage many interiors were restored. The most striking are the Sea Hall and the Hall of the Four Seasons, adorned with rich stucco work, mirrors and paintings.

The castle today

The site is cared for by the Polish Association of Mechanical Engineers and Technicians, which runs a hotel and conference centre here. Besides training events, concerts, picnics and temporary exhibitions take place, and the castle is open to visitors. It is worth combining a visit with a walk through the historic urban layout of Rydzyna and the surrounding park.
