ul. Wąska, Wieś Rytwiany
The ruins of the Gothic castle in Rytwiany lie in the valley of the Czarna Staszowska river, on the edge of extensive woodland. The brick residence was founded in the 15th century by Wojciech Jastrzębiec, bishop of Cracow and archbishop of Gniezno; some researchers date the origins of the building to the 14th century and credit Jastrzębiec only with its rebuilding. Until the end of the 15th century the castle remained the family seat of the Jastrzębiec-Rytwiański line.
A castle chapel is mentioned in 1414, and a rebuilding is recorded a dozen or so years later. The estate then changed hands often: it passed to the Tęczyński family, and after the death of Jan Magnus Tęczyński to Łukasz Opaliński, who in 1657 defended the castle against the troops of Prince Rákóczi. The building was badly damaged and under the Potocki family it was dismantled.
In 2013–2014 the area of the ruin was revitalised as a municipal historical and educational park. Its centrepiece is the surviving corner of the castle walls.
