A Modernist Residence in Wisła

Zameczek Prezydenta RP is a modernist residence built in 1929–1930 in Wisła to a design by Adolf Szyszko-Bohusz. It was created as a gift from the people of Silesia to the head of state, President Ignacy Mościcki. It stands on the slope linking Zadni Groń with the Barania Góra massif, above the forks of the Biała and Czarna Wisełka streams.

Architecture and Interiors

The building is restrained, based on simple divisions and good materials — one of the best preserved examples of Polish modernist residential architecture. The interiors were designed by Andrzej Pronaszko and Włodzimierz Padlewski. The Lower Castle was raised on the site of a former hunting lodge, while the residence proper, the Upper Castle, was built higher up the slope.

Visiting and Surroundings

The residence was the official seat of Polish heads of state in 1933–1952 and has served that role again since 2002. Besides its ceremonial duties, the Upper Castle is open to visitors — entry is in organised groups, with dates arranged in advance. Around it run Beskid trails towards Barania Góra and Zadni Groń.
