ul. Zamkowa, Wieś Dąbrowa
The castle in Dąbrowa stands on the highest rise in the village, in the Opole district, in the middle of an extensive park. Its history goes back to the 17th century, when the building was commissioned by Joachim von Tschetschau-Mettich. Over the following centuries the residence changed hands many times, and each owner left a mark on it.
In 1805 the Ziegler-Klippehausen family laid out a park of more than twenty hectares around the seat, with a pheasantry and fish ponds. In 1892 the estate was bought by the Hochberg family, and Conrad Eduard von Hochberg rebuilt it in the neo-Renaissance spirit, giving the whole the character of a grand palace. A wing and a tower survive from the older structure. After the Second World War the interiors were damaged and looted.
The hallmark of the building are its original spirally twisted chimneys, a detail found in no other Silesian residence. The castle is not open for regular sightseeing, but the building and the surrounding park can be viewed from outside.
