A castle in a district of Tarnowskie Góry

Stare Tarnowice is today a district of Tarnowskie Góry in Upper Silesia. A castle built in the 16th century has survived here, though its original form was blurred by successive rebuildings carried out from the 18th century onwards. The site now forms an extensive castle complex, one of the most recently opened monuments of this kind in the region.

Revitalisation and the complex

The last stage of the works was completed in 2011 and since then the place has drawn visitors from far beyond the town. Not only the castle itself was restored, but also the farm buildings — the granary and the barn — producing a coherent ensemble with a courtyard and space for events. The courtyard and part of the interiors are open free of charge; the rooms with historic furnishings are ticketed.

Exhibition and family attractions

The exhibits include a scale model of the entire complex, and the biggest impression on children is made by a model of the Tarnowskie Góry market square built from Lego bricks. Lovers of old prints will find a library with several interesting volumes. Sightseeing takes place mostly indoors, so the weather matters little.
