The castle in Koźmin Wielkopolski

The brick castle in the centre of Koźmin Wielkopolski was built in the 13th century on an almost square plan, with a rectangular gate tower. In the 16th century it was remodelled in the Renaissance spirit, and today most of its wings are occupied by a school. The Gothic brick tower was left unplastered and stands out clearly against the light, horseshoe-shaped body of the building.

Museum of the Koźmin Land

A small museum with eight exhibition rooms has occupied the castle interiors since 1988. The display presents the history of the town and the surrounding villages: old crafts, guild mementoes, household furnishings, documents and photographs. The collection is modest but arranged chronologically, so a full visit takes about an hour.

Visiting and surroundings

The museum is open all year, but only on selected weekdays and single Sundays — it is best to arrange a visit by phone in advance, and the same applies to organised groups. The castle looks most impressive from the side of the entrance gate. The market square and the parish church are a short walk away.
