Wieś Papowo Biskupie
Papowo Biskupie lies in the Chełmno district, and the castle ruins occupy a low rise in the centre of the village — between Lake Papowskie to the west and a smaller, drying reservoir on the other side. The stronghold of the Teutonic Order was raised at the end of the 13th century as one of the complexes combining the functions of a castle and a monastery.
For centuries the place witnessed fighting, and from the 17th century it began to be dismantled. Part of the stone was taken to Chełmno, where it served in the construction of the seminary. The best preserved element today is the northern wing with the chapel and chapter house; of the remaining parts, mainly the perimeter walls and fragments of foundations are legible.
The building's peculiarity is its material: it was raised almost entirely from irregular field stones and granite, which sets it apart from typical brick Teutonic castles. A monument has been placed by the ruins. The visit is short and the ground uneven, while the surrounding lakes invite a longer walk in the area.
